Kapuaiwa Grove
Molokai’s Kapuaiwa Grove is one of Hawaii’s oldest coconut groves. The trees here date back to the mid-nineteenth century and were planted by King Kamehameha V. Some local historians believe the king had 1,000 royal coconut palm trees planted here to shade the bathing pools once favored by the alii (Hawaiian royalty.) Others believe the trees were meant as a living monument to his thousand-strong army of warriors.

Today the lovely oceanfront grove is smaller, with a few hundred of the original trees still surviving, but it is no less enchanting – especially at sunset. The silhouetted shapes of the swaying palms paint the perfect picture of a blissful, balmy tropical evening.
Due to the potential danger of coconuts falling, no visitors are allowed into the grove itself.
The grove located on the south shore of Molokai 1 ½ miles west of Kaunakakai.
